GREEN IT

Kinesys is one of many companies in the world that use GreenIT. GreenIT means building an IT infrastructure that uses fewer resources, especially energy. This refers not only to the electricity that computers consume, but also to the energy needed for cooling, management and control via the network. The Kinesys Datacenter is located in the greenDatacenter (ZH). The greenDatacenter is the winner of the Prix Watt d`Or Award.

We use desktop virtualisation and thin clients

Replacing desktops with virtual machines and using thin clients reduces power consumption and changes a company's infrastructure. As a senior partner of a company with 100 employees explained: [Virtual computers have] no CPU, no RAM, no moving parts and connect directly to virtual computer management. While a normal desktop computer has a power supply of about 250 watts, a thin client requires just a 4.8 watt power supply. This means a reduction in energy consumption of 97 - 98 %, with full functionality.

We support the reduction of travel

For many companies, reducing travel costs and addressing environmental needs is an important goal.

We support by offering the following:

We use programmes for storage consolidation and server virtualisation

With storage consolidation programmes, we can reduce stored data volumes. This reduces the need for physical servers and hard drives. Kinesys is able to react to changes at short notice and implement necessary adjustments to the server configurations. This eliminates the time and material expenditure that is necessary with physical servers. Central administration of the storage systems also simplifies the effort when data is only distributed on a few systems.

Printer consolidation

For more than 65% of companies, reducing printer consumables (toner, paper, ink, power) is the most important approach to printer consolidation and reduction of the number of printers. Costs for management, maintenance of printers of different manufacturers, models and hardware requirements distributed in the company are reduced.

We support energy saving products and technologies and recommend them to our customers

Both the use of Energy Star certified equipment and software to centrally control the energy settings of computers, thin and zero clients, monitors and printers.

We promote the recycling of IT equipment and the secure destruction of data media.

An important argument for recycling strategies is the avoidance of waste, the dumping of waste in heaps and, in the meantime, the reuse of the bound resources. Another important point is the safe and environmentally sound destruction of equipment at the end of its service life.
